About Åsgårsdreia

“Åsgårdsreien” by Peter Nicolai Arbo(1872)

Known as the wild hunt in european lore, Åsgårdsreia is a scandinavian rendition of the procession of supernatural creatures that hunt across the skies in warning or in search of victims.

In Norway it was a warning for all of the dark days during Christmas season. If you weren’t ready in time for Christmas you could be taken away by ‘reia. You would then either die, or be found far away delirious from the ride.

This might be the reason I have decided to use this as the name and frame for my blog. I want to take you all on a ride. Through Norwegian lore, traditions, some history and also just some random Norweigan things with parts of my own mundane life sprinkled on top of it all. Some bland seasoning to not overpower your palette with all the creatures around.

In time, I might even branch out and cover more lore and scary stuff from around the world as well, cause there is nothing I love more than a good story, mostly while doing some sort of handcraft or taking a trip around the beautiful scenery you get when you live away from the cities in Norway.

I hope you will enjoy what this wild ride will bring, and I promise no one will end up dead by the end of it. A little delirious? Maybe.
